Meaning of Windows Update Error Windows 7 Error Code 80070BC9 and Installation Errors?
A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. It is a state of having a wrong judgement or conception in your conduct that allows catastrophic things to happen. In machines, error is a way to measure the difference between the observed value or the computed value of an event against its real value.
It is a deviation from correctness and accuracy. When errors occur, machines crash, computers freeze and softwares stop working. Errors are mostly unintentional events to happen. Most of the time, errors are a result of poor management and preparation.
Seeing an error when you work on your computer is not an instant cause of panic. It is not unusual for a computer to encounter problems but it is also not a reason to let it be and not to investigate on the errors. Windows errors are issues that can be fixed through solutions depending on what may have caused them in the first place. Some may only need a quick fix of re-installation of the system while others may require in-depth technical assistance. It is crucial to react to the signals on your screen and investigate the problem before trying to fix it.
Having a sign that tells us of issues that we need to solve in life for us to move forward is a great idea. While it does not always work in life, it does in computers. Messages that indicate the issues your computer encounters are called error codes. They appear whenever there is a problem such as incorrect data input or faulty hardware. Computer programmers add predefined error codes and messages in their system codes so whenever there is an issue, it prompts the users. While error codes may be predefined, there are different sets of error codes with different meanings for other kinds of computer programs.
A lot of users experience difficulties in installing Windows software updates. Most of the time, the update error message doesn’t tell you anything helpful to fix the issue. One the most common update error is “Windows could not search for new updates” plus an error code “80240442”. Updates are important as they deliver hotfixes, security patches and other improvements. Therefore, it is vital to install them when they are available.
Microsoft has streamlined the update process in the recent versions of Windows. However, this does not mean that update errors are totally out of the picture especially with issues relating to compatibility.
Windows 7 is the operating system released by Microsoft, following the Windows Vista. However, despite its later technology, there are still errors encountered in Windows 7. Sometimes, problems occur even during an installation or an upgrade. A common example is when you upgrade your Windows Vista to Windows 7 and after more than 50%, it will fail or hang. Other Windows 7 errors are caused when you incorrectly install or uninstall a program. When there are errors in your Window 7, a pop up error message will appear once you start your computer. Windows 7 error that are not fixed will make it annoying to perform other task including hardware functions.

Whenever you see windows error on your screen, the easiest and safest way to fix it is to reboot your computer. Just like our bodies needing a shut eye for several minutes, our computers also need to shut down once in awhile. A quick reboot can refresh your programs and gives your computer a clean slate to start a new venture. More often than not, it also eliminates the errors you have encountered after rebooting. It is also ideal to shut down your computer once a week to completely put all unused programs to rest. However, when a reboot does not work anymore, use more advanced Windows solutions to fix your errors.
It is important to always run a system diagnostic scan when Windows Updates fail to download or install in order to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. Microsoft provides a troubleshooter for Windows Update related errors that will detect the problem and most likely can automatically fix it. However, there are always these type of errors that are hard to pin down.
Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the problem and fix it.

- Disable your Firewall and Anti-virus software.

- Flush the Software Distribution Folder.
- Reset the Catroot folder.
- Boot in Clean Boot State and run Windows Update again.

It is a built-in troubleshooter that will help users fix errors in Windows 7. Check the Wizard under the Start menu. For legacy software, you can check the Compatibility tab of the program to edit the settings.
Other fixes in Windows 7 error include:
- Running a Clean Boot Using Microsoft Guided Help

Hi,
I have only one Windows 7 machine which has started to show 80070BC9 in Windowsupdate.log file when trying to install Windows updates KB2478662. I believe this refers to a 'pending update' which needs to be completed before other updates can follow (normally
after a reboot).
I restarted the computer many times, tried to install this update manually, tried .Net cleanup tool, strated the computer in selective startup mode (without load startup items) and reset Windows update components. unfortunately I still
have the same problem.
I get the following in Windowsupdate.log file:

I have only one Windows 7 machine which has started to show 80070BC9 in Windowsupdate.log file when trying to install Windows updates KB2478662. I believe this refers to a 'pending update' which needs to be completed before other updates can follow (normally
after a reboot).
I restarted the computer many times, tried to install this update manually, tried .Net cleanup tool, strated the computer in selective startup mode (without load startup items) and reset Windows update components. unfortunately I still
have the same problem.
I get the following in Windowsupdate.log file:

Hi,
I understand that the issue persists after registering the Windows Update files and removing incorrect Registry values that may exist. And before that
you have tried manually installation, disable antivirus, checksur but the update still cannot be installed.
Based on my experience, the update fail issue may occur when there are problems with winsxs folder, disk or Software Distribution folder. Please try the steps below and check the
result.
1.
Rename Pending.xml
1). Open an elevated command prompt
2). At the command prompt type the following command:
takeown /f C:Windowswinsxspending.xml
3). Rename c:windowswinsxspending.xml using the following command:
Ren c:windowswinsxspending.xml pending.old
2. Run Check disk (chkdsk) on the OS partition
1). Open an elevated command prompt
2). At the command prompt type the following command:
Chkdsk volume: /f /r
3. Rename the Software Distribution folder
To rename the Windows Update temporary SoftwareDistribution directory follow these steps:
1). Start an administrative command prompt.
2). Run the following commands hitting enter after each line:
Net stop wuauserv
cd %systemroot%
Ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Net start wuauserv
3). Try to install updates again
Important The following issues occur when you do this:
• Updates that are currently downloaded but that have not yet been installed have to be downloaded again by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
• When you delete the Software Distribution folder, your download history is removed.
• If you currently receive updates from Microsoft Update and from Windows Update, you will have to re-select this option from the Windows Update Web site.
Note: If the issue is resolved and you can successfully download and install updates, you can safely delete the SoftwareDistribution.old directory to recover disk space.

Ruby Cheng

Error Code 80070bc9 Windows 8.1
- All,
One of our users with v11.1.2.1.00 (build 271) of SmartView has a workbook with a number of worksheets set up to retrieve from a v9.3.x HFM application.
Upon connecting his workbook (note that the workbook in question has some external links which I chose NOT to updaterefresh) to the v9.x HFM application in MS Excel 2003 SP3, the user selects Smart View > Data > Refresh All Worksheets and a error dialog box with the 'No pages updated' message gets displayed. Upon clicking on the [OK] button on the error dialog box in question, SmartView still cycles through all worksheets in the workbook and refreshes them one at a time without any further errorwarningother messages.
In an attempt to narrow down what worksheet(s) cause(s) this error message, I have tried to refresh each worksheet individually (ie, cycling through each worksheet and selecting Smart View > Refresh against each of them) and they all worked fine.
As this message is appearing in an error dialog box, the user is reluctant to have his PC upgraded to v11.1.2.1.00 (Build 271) SmartView on the basis that there must be something wrong with the add-in, etc.
I have searched the Oracle KB and the SmartView forum for this error message but in vain.
I was wondering if anyone had encountered this error message and whether they had the opportunity to resolve it and how.
Thanks in advance,

Can anyone offer advice on how I can overcome this problem.Problem solved by simply downloading iTunes and starting afresh. - I am trying to update to iTunes 10.5 and am getting a Apple Software update error. I uninstalled all Apple components but when I attempted to uninstall the Apple Software Update I received the same message: 'Fatal error during installtion.' I was able to repair the Apple Software Update but still could not install iTunes 10.5 afterwards.
I have tried everything that I could find on these discussions pages as well as other suggestions on third party sites. I continue to receive the error message: 'There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I was able to uninstall and reinstall QuickTime 7.7.1. During the reinstalltion process I received the same message (There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.) But after clicking 'OK' the installtion process was succesful. PLEASE HELP! - Hello everyone, I've looked around at other threads related to my issue, and I can't seem to find a correct answer.
I have a computer lab that I've recently installed a Windows 7 Enterprise image onto 35 Dell Optiplex computers (most are 380's, a few older 360's).
I created the image using MDT2010 and used one of the 380's as a reference.
All has been well for about a month or two but recently 6 computers are giving me Windows Update errors with the error code of 80080005.
I have a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server running, and all of my other computers seem to be getting their updates just fine. WSUS has the problematic computers in it's database, but it shows that they haven't checked in for 'x' days.
I have Avast 4.8 Professional installed, I have OpenDNS configured to block bad websites, ____, etc. and I also use an Untangle server to prevent access to bad websites. I've ran a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on the affected computers, as well
as Windows Defender scan, and Windows Live OneCare scans, and all have found no malicious software.
I have also tried resetting the Windows update service as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 as well as a script that supposedly does the same thing, but also resets all previous
update events, but I can't find the script source right now (I had ran it last week, and it didn't work).
I'm currently running a SFC /Scannow on one of the computers, and now it has finished. It gives the error: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service. I'll have to google that next.
The last windows update that ran on the computer that I'm working on now was installed on 11-18-2010 and was a Windows Defender Update (KB915597 Def: 1.93.1985.0)
Previous to that was 11/9/2010 2 updates: KB977165 and KB981852.
I guess I'll have to look at all of the other machines to see if they have the same updates installed.
Anyway, has anyone else had this problem? I've seen vista home editions, and RC's but no real Windows 7 Pro+ RTM versions in business environments where updates were controlled by WSUS.
Thanks for any help that you can provide!
By the way, I only work at this location once a week (tuesdays, well thursdays too, but I'm next door to this building, but I have remote access), so bare with me on trying to fix things.Ok, for the sake of completeness, I have completed the instructions given by Miya Yao.
After stopping the Windows Update Service (from an Admin Command prompt window), renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder to SDold, then starting the update service again, I still receive the same error when checking for updates.
The windows update log shows this (starting from about 4am) and I just reset the service at about 9:10, which you can see in the log.

2010-12-21 09:10:52:784 940 ba0 AU Successfully wrote event for AU health state:0 - Each time I attempt to download the new itunes 10.5 I keep getting the following error message:
Product: Apple Software Update -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action SoftwareUpdate_UnregServer, location: C:Program FilesApple Software UpdateSoftwareUpdate.exe, command: /UnregServer

Any Ideas of how to solve this one? After reading all these posts, one by one did not resolve my problem until I got the very end. Regardless of what step would resolve your problem, these are the steps I would recomment to everyone for a what seems to be a safe and fool-proof upgrade to iTunes 10.5.
1. Stand alone upgrade to the latest Quicktime version
2. Go to control panel and 'change' then select repair to the following applications in the order specified by the post on Oct 27. (Notice I skipped Quicktime because it had been upgrade manually, and Bonjour did not have a 'repair' option)
iTunes; Apple Software Update: Mobile Device Support; Apple Applications Support
Some of these applications may not appear if they do not apply to your configuration (no iPhone, or no iPad, or other apple devices).
Once all updated, I did not need to restart nor launch any applications, I simply went straight into the 10.5 upgrade, and where it normally got stuck, this time the installation continued for a while longer until it completed successfully.
Great work everyone who contributed! Thank you very much! - Note: it was recommended that I post this to TechNet. Windows Update KB2926765 keeps failing to install. The error code is 8024200D.
I've run sfc /scannow with no errors.
I used the System File Checker tool http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us.
I ran the System Update Readiness tool. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=1540
The update still failed to install.
I've also run the MGADiag tool and the Microsoft FixIt windows update (wu) tool.
I then downloaded the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx
and copied it to the WindowsCheckSURpackages folder (after creating the 'packages' folder) , and ran the Readiness tool again.
The update failed to install.
I ran the readiness tool again. This time the readiness tool found no errors.

I also recently ran the 'automatic troubleshooter' MicrosoftFixit.wu.LB.236326420485116200.3.1.Run.exe and still have the problem.
We're using Windows Vista Business SP2 32 bit upgraded from XP. Antivirus - Bitdefender up to date. Previous antivirus - Avira Antivir and AVG. Firewall - Online Armor. The last successful update installation was Security Update for Office 2003 (KB2726929).
It and other updates have installed successfully (after the KB2926765 failure) and KB2926765 keeps failing.

Is there supposed to be a 'null' going into whatever that is? - I tried to update my itune with the latest update and now i can't use itune at all . I have tried reinstalling it . all get is MSVCR80.dll and then I get Error 7 (windows erreor 126) . Need help please .Similar problem here. iTunes11 notified me it was available. However, auto-update failed. So, I downloaded for manual update. That failed with 'permission' message. I am administrator on this machine (WIN7). I tried uninstalling old version, but it failed with same permission issue. I now can't start iTunes... throws permission message. So, I'm completely dead in the water. Does this stuff get tested before it's shipped?
- I tried to update my Adobe Reader to version 11.0.7
I have win 8.1 64 latest updates. The update procedure ends with error : 1116.
I downloaded `AdbeRdrUpd11007.msp` und tried to update and got error message: The File `acrosup64.dll`is not marked for installation.
Therefore an update is not possible.

Can anyone help me with this issue! I've tried everything under the sun to fix this problem so I'm hoping you's more in the know than myself can help!!??Hi
This Vista update problem seems to be known to Microsoft:
+If you receive Windows Update error 80070490, it means that a file (CBS Manifest) that's needed to install updates is corrupt. To correct this problem, you'll need to repair Windows. Repairing Windows won't damage your personal files or the programs that are installed on your computer.+
Here more details how to fix this issue:
[Windows Update error 80070490|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/windows-update-error-80070490] - got Vista Home Premium 32bit and updates were running smooth till January. In Feb- March updates just stopped to work due error code 80072EFD. Have tried with Fixit ( doesn't work as well ) got an error 8004FE2C, and Win Defender got the same error
as updates 80072EFD. My laptop is without viruses ( have ESET Smart Security ) and no maleware ( have Malewerebytes ). Already had checked all Win Update services were they running, then resetting them and added the links of microsoftupdates.com in ESET
and Explorer ( preventing form blocking the site) even closed all firewalls and security.....without any success. Still got the same error 80072EFD!!
Can u please help ! :(Try to use the below to see if it helps http://windows.microsoft.com/en-sg/windows/windows-update-error-80072efd#1TC=windows-7 And try resetting the windows update components http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Regards,
Chrobak77 - Windows 7 PRO GP update error
We have a very peculiar problem
We have a Primary DC & Secondary DC installed in all our office ( Windows 2008R2). The Domain name is abc.com for all the Offices and the replication between the DC's happen in between the office happen without a problem.
The clients in each of the offices gets authenticated from the DC in the respective office.
But for a group policy update it gives an error as below
'Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encountered: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file
<FQDN>sysvol<FQDN>Policies{BD732AAF-016F-11D2-945F-00C04Fb984F9}gpt.inifrom a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is
resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.
The error happens only on some clients.
We are able to Ping, connect to the local DC and the client gets the IP from the local DC and also gets authenticated by the local DC for log on.
On the PC which gives an error if we try to ping domain name - abc.com it returns the ip of the DC in a another office and not the local DC.
Request to suggest a solution / tips to identify the problemThanks for your reply
